Productivity of Garden Egg (Solanum Melongena) in Imo State, South East Nigeria

The socio-economic, cultural, high price, higher demand and nutritional relevance of garden egg (Solanum melongena) prompted this inquest on its productivity in Imo State, Southeast Nigeria. Multistage sampling technique was used to select 180 Garden egg producer households whose responses formed the data used in this study. Data were collected with the aid of structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and total factor productivity index were used as analytical tools. The results showed that the mean age, level of education, household size, farming experience and farm size are 51years, 12years, 6 persons, 23years, and 0.511 hectares respectively. It also showed a high and encouraging total factor productivity of 1.75 which implies a technically efficient production system and a potentially profitable venture. It was therefore concluded that Garden egg (Solanum melongena) has very high productivity and is a profitable business venture and should be encouraged by all stakeholders in agriculture and economic planning in Nigeria. Eggplant character association

Correlation Studies on the Yield and Yield Characters of Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) in Anyigba, Kogi State Nigeria

Efforts are being made to increase its productivity by developing superior varieties. However, yield is a complex character, its direct improvement is difficult. Knowledge is respect of the nature and magnitude of associations of yield with various component characters is a prerequisite to bring improvement in the desired direction. This research was conducted at Kogi State University Student Research and Demonstration Farm (Longitude 07°06 1 N; 43°E), Anyigba, Kogi State, to investigate the association of some yield characters with yield in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.). Two cultivars of eggplant NC-2 (green) and NC-1 (off-white) were laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications. Yield component such as number of branches, fruit diameter, number of nodes, and number of fruits shows significant and positive association with yield. Correlation coefficient (r) for yield versus other growth and yield component: Plant height, number of branches, fruit diameter, number of nodes, and number of fruits were found to be 0.983, 0.962, 0.959, 0.906 and 0.891 respectively.

Evaluation of 130 Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) Genotypes for Future Breeding Program Based on Qualitative and Quantitative Traits, and Various Genetic Parameters

Eggplant is an essential widespread year-round fruit vegetable. This study was conducted using 130 local germplasm of brinjal to select diverse parents based on the multiple traits selection index for the future breeding program. This selection was performed focusing on 14 qualitative and 10 quantitative traits variation and genetic parameters namely, phenotypic and genotypic variance (PV and GV) and genotypic and phenotypic coefficients of variation (GCV and PCV), broad-sense heritability (hBS), genetic advance, traits association, genotype by trait biplot (G × T), heatmap analysis and multi-trait index based on factor analysis and genotype-ideotype distance (MGIDI). Descriptive statistics and analysis of variance revealed a wide range of variability for morpho-physiological traits. Se propone tomar al movimiento como materia prima para el acto creativo, en cuanto portador en sí mismo de un tejido de sentidos que a su vez es interpretado y reinterpretado por los distintos actores implicados (quien hace y quien observa). Desde esa perspectiva, hay una reflexión puesta en juego acerca de ciertos aspectos que están presentes en mi práctica coreográfica, uno de los cuales deriva en esta investigación: el movimiento como propulsor de una teatralidad particular. Desde allí, son propuestos el estudio y el análisis de los elementos poéticos implicados en los procesos de generación de sentido desde el movimiento hacia una cierta noción de teatralidad.
