Hisense Dehumidifier E9 Error Code! (Read This First) 2024 (2024)

The Hisense brand is a leading manufacturer of generally efficient dehumidifiers. However, the sudden appearance of error codes on your appliance can shock you, especially when you do not understand what they mean.

Like other error codes, the E9 humidifier error code indicates a development in your appliance that does not contribute positively to its performance.

The E9 error code of a Hisense dehumidifier indicates a problem with the humidity sensor. The humidity sensor is suddenly open to the elements, or its circuit has failed. The sensor helps the dehumidifier keep to the set relative humidity, so an E9 error code is one to be taken with utmost importance.

In this post, I will provide the details of replacing your humidity sensor. You will also be able to use the Hisense dehumidifier control panel and its features to your preference.

What Does the E9 Error Code Mean on the Hisense Dehumidifier?

The E9 error code alerts you to a failure in the humidity sensor. This malfunction can result from a poor wire connection or a fault in the humidity and temperature sensor itself.

Since the sensor in your Hisense dehumidifier is malfunctioning, it triggers the error code.

You should get a new sensor or replace the entire unit. If you have the skill, you can fix it yourself in a short time.

Sometimes all you have to do when your dehumidifier could perform better is give it an excellent reset to restore optimal performance.

How Do I Clear the E9 Error Code on My Hisense Dehumidifier?

To clear the E9 error code, you should get a replacement for the humidity sensor.

There is no way to fix the E9 error code on your appliance if the root problem -that is, a lousy sensor- is still present.

All you have to do is confirm if your sensor is indeed faulty or if it is a technical miscalculation.

#1. Check the Wiring Connection

Inspect the wires to see if they are secured. Then, remove the terminal block also to check the pins.

If the pins are bent, then they are the cause of the humidity sensor malfunction. However, the wire connection is good if the pins are in great shape.

#2. Check the Wire Resistance

Here, use a multimeter to check the resistance in kilo ohms across the wires of the humidity sensor. You should see the terminals labeled ODT on the user interface.

Now, disconnect the wires from the terminal and measure the resistance. A short circuit will show meager resistance, while an open one will show high resistance.

In a functioning sensor, the temperature of its surroundings also influences its resistance.

To understand the proper amount of resistance you should get from your measurements, compare the results to the table below.

Temperature (° Fahrenheit)Resistance (Kilo ohms)
085.6
1062.6
2046.3
3034.6
4026.1
5019.9
6015.3
7011.9
809.4
907.4
1005.9

If your measurements are similar to the table, your sensor functions correctly. However, if they are vastly different, your sensor is not working. Replace it to clear the E9 error code.

How Do You Reset a Hisense Dehumidifier?

You can reset a Hisense dehumidifier by unplugging it, disconnecting the power, then waiting for 10 seconds.

After this, plug the dehumidifier back. This process will clear all the previous control settings. You can now proceed to implement new settings.

Hisense dehumidifiers, however, do not have a reset button. So, to reset your appliance, you should follow a general reset process for all models.

Below is the process.

#1. Hard Reset

Disconnect and reconnect the dehumidifier with at least a 10-second interval.

If you reconnect your dehumidifier before the 10-second mark, it might need more time to reset. After this reset process, the system will completely clear the controls.

#2. Filter Monitor

The filter monitor only resets when you change the air filter. However, if you only cleaned the air filter and want to reset it, you can do it manually in these easy steps.

  • Press and hold the Clean Filter button for five seconds. The indicator light will go off.
  • Press the same button and hold for five to ten seconds. It will restore the standard display.

The filter monitors of most Hisense dehumidifiers reset with this process, apart from the Hisense DH3020K1W. In this model, press and hold the power button for five seconds to reset.

#3. Operation Mode

With the mode button, you can run your appliance in three modes. These modes are auto-dry, continuous, and manual.

#1. Auto-dry

  • This mode is excellent for air with high humidity, like in rainy weather.
  • The set relative humidity of the dehumidifier is 50% in this mode.
  • The fan speed is slow but adjustable.

#2. Continuous

  • Unlike the other modes, the dehumidifier does not go off unless you turn it off.
  • The relative humidity is unadjustable.
  • You can only adjust the speed of the fan.

#3. Manual

  • You can adjust the relative humidity and fan speed.
  • You control all of the other settings as well.
  • The dehumidifier shuts down periodically when it achieves the set humidity.

#4. Relative Humidity

Although Hisense dehumidifiers have a minimum humidity limit of 30% and a maximum of 80%, the ideal relative humidity to set should be between 30-50%.

To clarify, the lower the percentage value, the less the relative humidity, Just as the relative humidity increases when the percentage value does.

To set the relative humidity,

  • Make sure the dehumidifier is running in manual mode.
  • Find the button marked with a + and – on the control panel. That is the humidity button.
  • Input your settings by pressing the + or – sign accordingly.
  • After five minutes, the dehumidifier will take on the new settings.

#5. Fan Speed

With the Fan/Vent button on the control panel, you can set the fan speed to low, auto, or high.

The fan regulates the airflow in the dehumidifier, so it shuts down when the relative humidity is at the set point.

How Do You Replace a Humidity Sensor with a Dehumidifier?

Replace your sensor with the steps below. Your Hisense dehumidifier will be unable to cycle properly until the faulty sensor is no longer part of the assembly.

Get a new sensor which is manufacturer-approved, as a replacement.According to the Hisense dehumidifier user manual, unplug the appliance before proceeding with the replacement process.

Step 1. Remove the Bucket

Pull this bucket out of the dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers allow humid air into the unit to separate the moisture from the air.

This dry air goes back out while the water gathers in a water collection bucket.

Step 2. Take Out the Air Filter

The air filter makes the air from the dehumidifier free from impurities. From the front grille, take the air filter out.

When replacing an old sensor with a new one with accumulated debris in that air filter, clean it.

Step 3. Unscrew the Front Grille

Two screws at the bottom hold the front grille to a frame. After removing the screws, carefully raise the grille away from the edge and set it close to the dehumidifier.

The front grille has to stay near because the wires to the control board are still attached to it. Handle it carefully to avoid damage.

Step 4. Remove the Back Panel

Using a screwdriver, loosen the screws fastening the back panel to your Hisense dehumidifier. With care, pull out a bottom corner and, with it, guide the back panel off.

Step 5. Remove the Outer Case

It is the same procedure as the previous one. Loosen the screws holding the dehumidifier outer case and pull it off.

Step 6. Remove the Humidity Sensor

Now that you have gotten to the sensor, you should disconnect the wires connecting it to the control board.

Also, disconnect the wires attaching the sensor to the float switch and the evaporator thermistor. Then, pull the sensor away from the evaporator fins and entirely out of the dehumidifier.

Step 7. Reassemble

Place the new humidity sensor in front of the evaporator fins. Reinstall the evaporator thermistor and reconnect the wire harness to the float switch of the collection bucket.

Also, reconnect the sensor wires to the control board. Fix the outer case back on the Hisense dehumidifier with mounting screws.

Repeat the same process with the back panel and the front grille. Then, reinstall the clean air filter and the water collection bucket.

After replacing the humidity sensor, restore its power by plugging it back into the electrical outlet.

Conclusion

The Hisense dehumidifier E9 error code is not as complex as it sounds. With the details provided in this article and the proper tools, you will be able to repair your dehumidifier.

Note that trying to do repairs when in doubt can be dangerous. Contact a qualified technician to resolve the issue instead.
