Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 news, rumors, and more (2024)

Hard as it may be to imagine anything faster than today’s flagship graphics cards, it’s only a matter of time before the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 sits at the head of the pack. We are still a long way out from its launch, but we have put together all the latest details and rumors onthe GPU right here.

If theNvidiaRTX 4090is anything to go by, then the RTX 5090 should be thebest graphics cardmoney can buy in terms of raw performance when it arrives on the scene. Powered by a new GPU microarchitecture, code-named either ‘Ada-Lovelace Next’ or ‘Blackwell’, the generational gap could be stark.

Sitting pretty at the head of the GeForce RTX 50series, there may not be any true competition to the RTX 5090. For now, it appears that high-endAMD RDNA 4GPUs are cancelled, and it’s currently unclear what formIntel Arc Battlemagegraphics cards will take.

As a reminder, information on the RTX 5090 is very much subject to change, so be sure to digest all claims surrounding it with a due degree of skepticism until we get an official word from Nvidia. Without further ado, here’s everything we know about the next GeForce giant.

When is the GeForce RTX 5090 release date window?

The RTX 5090 release date window is predicted to be in 2025, as part of the wider launch of its GPU family. It’s expected to be one of the first graphics cards in the GeForce RTX 50 series to be made available for purchase.

Since the launch of the GeForce GTX 900 series, Nvidia has stuck to a release pattern of a new graphics card generation roughly every two years, continuing with theGeForce RTX 40series. Strangely, aGeForce RTX 50 series release leakpoints to the company breaking its streak by allegedly committing to a 2025 release window, three years after Lovelace’s debut.

What is the price of the GeForce RTX 5090?

The RTX 5090 price is estimated to be between $1,599-$1,999, making it a match or more expensive than its predecessor, the RTX 4090.

Compared to current offerings,GeForce RTX 50 series prices may be higherowing to higher manufacturing costs imposed by TSMC. While it’s entirely possible that Nvidia could opt to take this extra expenditure on the chin and not pass it on to consumers, there’s no guarantee.

If we take the RTX 4090 as a reference point, then the RTX 5090 could be $100 more expensive, putting its potential price at $1,699. Expensive as this would be, it’s still cheaper than the Titan RTX, which set you back an eye-watering $2,499 on release, and we can only hope Nvidia doesn’t want to push the price ceiling that high again.

That said, withGeForce GPUs now making up just a sixth of Nvidia revenue, with data center making up a much larger portion, the company’s pricing strategy could be in for a significant shift.

What are the GeForce RTX 5090 specs?

The latest RTX 5090 specs rumors suggest that the graphics card will boast the highest memory bandwidth of any GeForce GPU. Additionally, it should sport a new generationof RT and Tensor cores for increased performance.

As the RTX 5090 will be built on a new architecture, it’ll be powered by one of the newGeForce RTX 50 series GPU dies. Naturally, as the flagship of its family, it’ll boast the largest and most powerful of the entire stack.

Rumored Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 specs

The RTX 5090 is expected to be among the first graphics card to use GDDR7 VRAM, which will give it vastly superior memory bandwidth compared to the RTX 4090. In addition to this spec bump, leaks suggest we could see a generational increase of 50% more RTX 5090CUDA coresthan in the RTX 4090, as well asboosts to the RTX 5090 clock speedand cache.

Recent rumors also point to the RTX 5090 memory bushaving a width of 512 bits, which is significantly wider than the 384-bit interface in the RTX 4090. This could potentially lead to the RTX 5090 memory bandwidth going over 1.5TB/s, perhaps reaching even as high as1,792GB/s.

There should also be RTX 5090 DisplayPort 2.1 outputs, allowing it to properly support gaming monitors with ever higher resolutions and refresh rates. Controversially, however,it appears that the RTX 5090 power connectorwill continue to be the12VHPWR power input found on the current RTX 4000 series, albeit with a more modern design.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 benchmark estimations

Our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 benchmark estimations put the GPU ahead of every graphics card currently available on the market, including the RTX 4090. While it’s something of a given that the GPU will be the fastest around, we won’t know how much better it’ll be versus its counterparts until release.

Some rumormongers suggest that the RTX 5090 performance will be 60 0r 70% faster than the RTX 4090,but it’s unclear whether this is with ray tracing enabled or disabled. Complicating matters further, this could also be with DLSS 3 enabled or as-yet unannounced performance enhancing features.
