These Celebrities Have All Shared Their Thoughts On Ozempic, And Whether They're Taking It Themselves (2024)

Ozempic is the weight loss drug that’s apparently taking over Hollywood—only, no one will admit that they’re on it.

Until recently, the drug (a branded semiglutide injection) was only prescribed to people with diabetes.

However, this all changed when the Food and Drug Administration approved the semaglutide (under the brand name Wegovy) as a treatment for chronic obesity.

Since, it feels like every star in Tinseltown has been accused of taking the drug, with every rapid celebrity weight loss becoming more and more suspicious.

Even the glamorous 95th Annual Academy Awards couldn’t escape the Ozempic obsession, with host Jimmy Kimmel joking “Everybody looks so great. When I look around this room, I can’t help but wonder ‘Is Ozempic right for me?'”

But as people expect more transparency around the use of Photoshop, filters and plastic surgery, there’s an increasing demand placed on celebrities to admit when they have had some weight loss assistance.

While most celebrities are keeping quiet about the popular drug, some are vehemently denying that they have used it and a small few are happily admitting that they have tried it.

Below, every celebrity that has admitted, denied or simply spoken about using Ozempic.

Amy Schumer

During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Amy Schumer slammed celebrities for lying about taking Ozempic.

“Like a year ago, I tried it,” Schumer revealed, before admitting that she “was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son.”

Schumer explained that she struggled to play catch with her young son while she “was so skinny” as she felt so unwell on the medication.

While the actress didn’t name anyone specific, she did criticise people who have lied about taking it.

“Everyone has been lying saying, ‘Oh smaller portions,'” she said. “Like shut the f— up. You are on Ozempic or one of those things or you got work done. Just stop.”

“Be real with the people,” she added. “When I got lipo, I said I got lipo.”

Julia Fox

Julia Fox has addressed claims that she’s using the weight loss drug.

In an interview with ET, Fox insisted that she’s never used Ozempic. “All these people are coming for me saying that I take the weight loss things… people are saying that I’m taking Ozempic or whatever it’s called,” she said. “I’m not and I’ve never have.”

She continued: “I would never do that. There are diabetics that need it.”

While Fox denies using Ozempic, she has admitted to getting liposuction treatments and using Botox in the past. These days, however, Fox says she’s not interested in altering her body.

“I’m, like, saggy—like, things are not sitting the way they used to,” Fox told ELLE US in February 2022, “But it’s like. I am not gonna do a damn thing about it.”

Chelsea Handler

Chelsea Handler admitted to taking the weight loss drug—accidently.

On an episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Handler revealed that she had taken Ozempic without knowing what it did.

“I didn’t even know I was on it,” she said, explaining that her “anti-aging doctor just hands it out to anybody”.

After finding out that the drug was really intended for people with diabetes Handler stopped taking it.

“I’m not on it anymore. That’s too irresponsible,” Handler said, “I’m an irresponsible drug user, but I’m not gonna take a diabetic drug. I tried it, and I’m not gonna do that. That’s not for me. That’s not right for me.”

Kyle Richards

People were quick to accuse Kyle Richards of using Ozempic after the The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star shared a photograph of herself in a bikini on Instagram.

Richards addressed the claims with a comment on Page Six’s Instagram page, writing “I am NOT taking Ozempic. Never have.”

She also replied to another Instagram user who accused her of taking the weight loss medication, stating: “I have never tried Ozempic and this is not from plastic surgery. I did have a breast reduction in May. I’m honest about what I do. But if giving plastic surgery the credit makes you feel better then pop off sister.”

Remi Bader

On an episode of Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, TikTok creator and model Remi Bader revealed that she started taking Ozempic after being prescribed the drug by her doctor. However, the TikTok creator warned people that once she stopped taking the drug, she “gained double the weight back.”

“I saw a doctor and they were like, ‘It’s 100% because you went on Ozempic ‘,” Bader recounted. “It was making me think I wasn’t hungry for so long. I lost some weight. I didn’t wanna be obsessed with being on it long term. I was like, I bet the second I got off I’m gonna get starving again. I did, and my bingeing got so much worse. So then I kind of blamed Ozempic.”

Bader also discouraged other people from taking the drug if they don’t need it, explaining: “You’re stopping it from even being in the market because there’s not enough for people who need it.”

Elon Musk

When Elon Musk was asked about his secret to a good physique, he had no qualms about admitting that secret was a version of Ozempic.

The Twitter and Tesla CEO responded to a Tweet asking him about the secret to his physique by tweeting “Fasting. And Wegovy.”

Khloe Kardashian

Khloe Kardashian was forced to address rumours that she was using Ozempic after people questioned her toned physique in a photoshoot for Sorbet Magazine.

The Kardashian quickly took to her Instagram page, stating: “Let’s not discredit my years of working out. I get up 5 days a week at 6am to train. Please stop with your assumptions. I guess new year still means mean people.”

Golnesa ‘GG’ Gharachedaghi

Shahs Of Sunset star Golnesa GG Gharachedaghi admitted to taking a weight loss drug in a video posted to her Instagram page.

“Unfortunately, because of my health, I had to get a lot of steroids injections last year, which caused me to really pack on some weight,” Gharachedaghi explained in the video. “I’ve been having a very, very, very hard time getting rid of that weight.”

“I did what all the people are doing, and lying about. I’m on the weight-loss shots, honey, okay?” she said. “I’m just not gonna lie about it, because I always keep it real about what is fake.”

While Gharachedaghi didn’t admit to whether it was Ozempic that she was taking, she later shared in the video comments that she was taking the generic semaglutide version of the drug.

Mindy Kaling

When Mindy Kaling’s body shape changed, many people believed Ozempic was responsible.

However, in a 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Kaling shared that her secret was simply exercise.

“The truth is that I spend so much time and energy trying to be healthy. I run or hike 20 miles a week and I lift weights. It’s a big commitment for me. I basically live in workout clothes so I can get it in,” Kaling said.

“I know people are really interested in the changes in my body, and I think it’s flattering but sometimes it’s just a little much, so I try not to tune into it.”

Roxy Jacenko

Sydney-based PR and media personality Roxy Jacenko has opened up about her experience using Ozempic. She told the Saturday Telegraph that she had gained 15 kilograms while taking a drug called Tamoxifen, a hormone therapy for breast cancer, and so decided to try out Ozempic. It’s important to note that Ozempic and semaglutide medications are not approved for use for weight loss in Australia.

Her doctor did not offer her a script for it, but she went to see another and was successful. Given the scarcity of the drug in the country, she was spending a fortune having it brought to Sydney for her use.

She admitted to taking an overdose of the drug (four times the prescribed amount) under the misguided opinion it would help her shed the weight faster. Instead, it landed her in hospital, vomiting and shaking uncontrollably.

“Why am I speaking about this? Because if there is one thing about me, I own it. And if this is a lesson to anyone who is trying to get it, then great. It is not worth the ramifications,” she said.
