What is

Academic Rigor is generally regarded as three different steps in the educational process. The first step involves setting the standard for students. The second step is equipping students through instructional and supportive methods. The final step is student demonstration of achievement. Supporting rigorous academic achievement means that educators must also make sure that they are supporting students to advance toward the desired achievement level. Teachers must consistently ensure that whatever the content or skill they are covering, they provide the requisite materials and instructional patterns.

Academic Rigor refers to a certain standard of excellence that professors and administrators expect of their students. These standards are made sometimes made clear to students through examples, instruction and rubrics. Sometimes these standards are less defined. What is essential for establishing the appropriate degree of rigor in your classroom is making sure that you overtly demonstrate to students what the expected outcome is.
