Do you eat dessert every night? We don't, but I really wish we could! It probably wouldn't be a wise choice, however, because dessert in my mind is something sweet and sugary, usually heavy laden with bad calories that push you over the edge. I know dessert doesn't have to be this way, but that's a mental battle I have to get over.

Yes, you can go a healthier route and serve fruit for dessert with some sort of low-fat yogurt dip. Or, you can inject all sorts of alterations into a recipe to make it "lighter". But, again, these are not the ideal desserts in my mind.

Plus, who has TIME to make dessert every day? I sure don't!

🥑 Avocado Chocolate Pudding

THIS dessert recipe though? It takes just minutes to prepare and is made with avocados, making it a dessert that I don't have to feel bad about eating every day. Not that I would, but I could... <a-hem, cough, cough.>

🧾 Grocery List

This avocado chocolate pudding contains no whole milk, heavy whipping cream, cornstarch, or sugar that you find in most recipes. The base of this chocolate pudding, and what makes it creamy, is the avocado!

Ingredients for avocado chocolate pudding:

  • Ripe avocados (2 medium)
  • Milk (dairy or nondairy)
  • Sweetener of choice (honey, maple syrup, liquid stevia, agave nectar, etc.)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder (can use sweetened)
  • Vanilla extract

This chocolate pudding with avocados is sweetened with your choice of sweetener. I prefer agave nectar, honey, or maple syrup creating a dessert I wouldn't feel guilty about eating every night.

🥛 Dairy Free Chocolate Pudding

Because the avocados in this recipe make the pudding creamy, you can use a lighter milk, or a dairy free milk (like almond milk, coconut milk, etc.) because you're not relying on it as the main substance. This is a dessert recipe to keep in my stash for also serving to my gluten free, dairy free, Paleo or vegan friends.

It truly seems like you're eating a normal delectable homemade chocolate pudding! You can adjust the ingredient amounts very easily to achieve the perfect taste for you. My preference is listed in the recipe below.

Don't you love giving a dish to someone and not telling them what's in it until they've almost eaten the whole thing? Since the avocado taste is masked well, Ben didn't even taste a hint of it the first time I gave it to him, until I told him. This avocado chocolate pudding is thrown together within minutes, maybe even seconds. There is no ingredient prep, except to quickly peel and chop the avocado, then you plop everything into your blender or food processor. You can even use your hand held mixer.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium ripe avocados , peeled, pitted and chopped
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup sweetener of choice (honey, pure maple syrup, agave nectar, etc.)
  • ½ cup milk (or any dairy-free milk)
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Blend all ingredients, until smooth, in a blender, food processor or using a hand held mixer. Serve immediately, or chill first (recommended).

  • Cover tightly and store in the fridge for up to 4 days.
