Warning: Contains spoilers for Peter Kay’s Car Share.
Peter Kay’s Car Share finale may have left viewers in an emotionally volatile state, but what exactly happened between John and Kayleigh?
The highly anticipated finale finally aired on Bank Holiday Monday (May 28), with the second series ending as Kayleigh (Sian Gibson) reveals she has feelings for John (Peter Kay).
It left the question hanging over whether they would end up together – so did the finale give us the happy ending we’ve been craving?
In the episodes final shot, John and Kayleigh were shown holding hands on a bus as they listened to music together – appearing to confirm they had become a couple.
Their path to bus romance however was a treacherous/hilarious one, as John stopped the car in the middle of the road so Kayleigh could save a hedgehog.
As John pushed open his car door, a lorry flew past sending it flying off its hinges into the middle of the road, leaving them resorting to boarding a bus.
As they shared headphones and held hands at the back of the bus, Kayleigh rested her head on John’s shoulder – bringing the series to a heartwarming finish.
While some may have found it a little too ambiguous, it’s a pleasing note which feels perfectly at spirits with the show – we didn’t exactly want them snogging each other’s faces off, did we?
While this might be the end of Car Share, Peter Kay and Sian Gibson have teased they could end up working together on a new project.
